Nobody wants a garage conversion

A homeowner does not wake up wanting a garage converted. They wake up with a problem: there is nowhere to work, the children are sharing a room, a parent is moving in, or the house has simply stopped fitting. The conversion is the answer to that problem, and marketing that leads with the answer instead of the problem reaches people far too late.

The search terms are the giveaway

'Garage conversion' is searched by people who have already worked out what they want. 'Home office ideas', 'where to put a downstairs bedroom', 'running out of space' — those are searched by people who have not, and there are many more of them.

Owning the second group means being in the conversation months before a competitor who only appears when somebody searches the trade name.

Build a page per use

Home office, downstairs bedroom, playroom, gym, utility and boot room, granny flat, music or hobby room. Each is a different person with a different worry.

The person wanting an office cares about noise, heating and a door that shuts. The person creating a downstairs bedroom is frequently thinking about an ageing parent and cares about access and a bathroom. Those are not the same page and should not pretend to be.

  • Home office — sound, heat, light, broadband, a door that closes
  • Downstairs bedroom — access, proximity to a bathroom, privacy
  • Playroom — durability, storage, being able to see the kids
  • Gym — floor, ceiling height, ventilation, power
  • Granny flat — independence, access, what is actually involved

The photographs have to match the use

A gallery of generic finished rooms proves nothing. A finished home office, clearly in a converted garage, with the before shot beside it, answers the exact question in the reader's head.

Caption them with the use, not just the address. It helps the reader and it helps the page appear for the search.

It changes the ads as well

An advertisement showing a garage door is showing the problem. One showing a finished room somebody wants is showing the outcome, and outcome creative consistently outperforms in this trade.

Before-and-after pairs do both at once, which is why they work so well here.

Why the field is open

Almost every firm in this niche in Ireland markets the trade rather than the outcome, which leaves the higher-volume, earlier-stage searches unclaimed.

It is the clearest ranking opportunity available in this category and it needs writing rather than budget.
